Land Clearing Services Available in Union County
Our professional land clearing services in Union County run from a quarter-acre lot to a 40-acre fencerow. Lot clearing for a Jerome Township build. Brush clearing along a county ditch. Tree clearing on wooded tracts in the bat window. Stump grinding, $4 an inch. Site clearing, site prep and grading for a pole barn. Underbrushing.
Our land clearing service removes trees and brush and grinds the stumps. Selective clearing leaves the walnuts. Dirt work services run $160 an hour with an operator, excavation included, for a pond footprint. Residential and commercial, both. Tree removal over the house goes to a climber. No concrete, wells or septic from a land clearing service.
Forestry Mulching Along the Honda Corridor: Honeysuckle Mulched in Place
Forestry mulching here is honeysuckle under every woodlot edge, and four other things:
- Callery pear thickets on old fields along SR 161, cut-stump treated within minutes.
- Multiflora rose and autumn olive on reclaimed pasture, the fencerow trio.
- Dead ash in every woodland since the borer, felled first because the tops drop early.
- Osage orange hedgerows, the hardest wood we meet.
Our mulching services grind the undergrowth and the trees and branches to 8 inches where they stand. Ash and hardwood over that we fell first. Honeysuckle resprouts from the crown, so the crown is ground into the dirt, not topped. The mulch ends up two to four inches deep. I have cleared honeysuckle since 2017; fields here overgrow faster than any I know. We remove unwanted vegetation and leave your oaks.
Lot Clearing for New Homes in Marysville and Jerome Township
The county issued 595 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, every one of them through the county office. Residential land clearing here follows the Honda corridor: Marysville, Jerome Township and the Dublin edge along US 33. Small residential lots run a day. Half acre, $2,500. Quarter acre, $1,700 flat.
Residential jobs are a homeowner with a honeysuckle fencerow and a dead ash by the garage. Commercial land clearing is the EV hub retooling and the suppliers following it; that commercial land and the master-planned communities behind it get the 300-hp mulcher and a stormwater plan. Commercial development and property development start with site preparation.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost Here?

Soil, Season and Vegetation on the Darby Plains
Union County's ground is Crosby and Kokomo silt loam over till clay, flat and tiled. The Kokomo flats hold standing water into May and the tile runs at 30 inches, where the bucket finds it. Near Big Darby Creek the woodland is bur oak and hickory with box elder on the bank. The Scioto River side is sycamore bottoms and a hawthorn fence line between fields. Agricultural land opens after harvest.
Frozen, mud or dust, pick one. On our jobs along SR 4 last winter the clay carried the big mulcher without a mark. Dead ash tops drop early, so we fell them first and keep the drainage swales open for the cleanup.
Burn Rules, Wetlands and Permits Before You Clear
Burning land-clearing brush is out inside Marysville and Richwood. Ohio EPA OAC 3745-19 bars open burning inside corporation limits. In the townships the pile sits 1,000 feet from a neighbor's house with written notice to Ohio EPA, and ODNR Forestry bars daytime burning in spring and fall. So we mulch or haul.
The Union County Building Department issues every permit in the county, cities included; a pad adds a township zoning certificate from Jerome, Millcreek, Darby or Paris. Clearing alone on acreage needs neither; farm use is exempt under ORC 519.21. At 1 acre of disturbance Union SWCD reviews the erosion and sediment control plan. On the I-71 pads I wrote those plans for fourteen years.
Big Darby Creek is a State and National Scenic River with clubshell and riffleshell mussels, and the county enforces the riparian setback. Kokomo flats can be isolated wetlands; Ohio EPA Level 1 covers fill to half an acre. Streams go to the USACE Huntington District. Trees over 3 inches on tracts over 1 acre come down October 1 to March 31 for the Indiana bat. OUPS 811 before any stump or grubbing work.
Frozen-Ground Land Clearing December to February
Frozen ground is the land clearing season on this till plain, December through February. Clay remembers every tire that crossed it in April. In January it remembers nothing, carries the mulcher flat and charges no mud surcharge. The Indiana bat window is open. Book the frozen weeks early; Honda country fills them.
