Land Clearing Services Available in Summit County
The professional land clearing services in Summit County we run most: tree clearing of dead ash on ravine acreage in Bath, and Richfield Townships, lot clearing for a build, brush clearing on old pasture, stump grinding at $4 an inch, and site clearing with site prep and grading for a pad. Underbrushing comes next.
Our land clearing service removes trees and brush and grinds the stumps; the lot is staked when we leave. Selective clearing keeps the oaks and the hemlocks on the slope. Dirt work services run $160 an hour with an operator, excavation included, for a pond footprint. Residential and commercial, both. A tree removal over the house goes to a climber, not a mulcher. No concrete, no wells, no septic from a land clearing service.
Forestry Mulching on Ravine Lots: Dead Ash and Honeysuckle Mulched in Place
Forestry mulching in the Akron area is honeysuckle and buckthorn under dead ash, on slopes a dozer would strip. Our mulching services grind the honeysuckle, multiflora rose, autumn olive and buckthorn, undergrowth and the trees and branches to 8 inches on the skid steer and 12 on the big machine. The mulch lays two to four inches deep and holds the bank.
Dead ash and hardwood over that we fell first; the tops drop early, and the wood is yours. Honeysuckle resprouts from the crown, so we grind the crown into the dirt; you spray the regrowth that summer. I have cleared honeysuckle since 2017 and these ravine lots overgrow in two seasons once the ash dies and the light comes in. Removing vegetation in place means no piles to haul or burn. We remove unwanted vegetation and leave the woodland standing where you say.
Lot Clearing for New Homes in Bath, Richfield and Green
The county wrote 453 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, 298 of them in the townships. Residential land clearing here is a homeowner in Bath Township with 3 acres of ravine, honeysuckle at the top and dead ash over the hemlocks. Small residential lots run one day: half acre $2,500, quarter acre $1,700, plus transport.
Comparable job one county west: 6 acres of EAB-killed ash and honeysuckle in Medina County, February, frozen ground, two days with the 300-hp mulcher, $7,800. Commercial land clearing is the I-77 corridor through Green, where commercial development and master-planned communities take farm woodlots. The big machine goes to that commercial land. Site preparation is where property development starts here; residential jobs pay from the same list.

Soil, Season and Vegetation From the Cuyahoga River to Portage Lakes
Summit County's ground is Mahoning and Ellsworth lake-plain clay on the flats and Wooster and Canfield silt loam on the plateau, cut by ravines to the Cuyahoga River. Hemlock ravines do not care what the forecast says. Near Portage Lakes it is red maple and pin oak swamp forest with buckthorn thickets. Along the Cuyahoga River it is hemlock on the north slopes, beech and maple above, and a hawthorn fence line on the agricultural land out in Copley.
Frozen, mud or dust, pick one, except here the mud runs into May. On our jobs in Bath Township last winter the slope carried the mulcher like pavement. Drainage swales get flagged first and stay open for the cleanup.
Burn Rules, Wetlands and Permits Before You Clear
Burning land-clearing brush is out inside Akron, Stow, Green and the villages. Ohio EPA OAC 3745-19 bars open burning inside corporation limits. In the townships the pile sits 1,000 feet from a neighbor's house with written notice to Ohio EPA, and ODNR Forestry bars daytime burning in spring and fall. So we mulch or haul.
A pad needs the Summit County Building Standards permit plus a zoning certificate from the township: Bath, Copley, Richfield, Boston, Northfield Center. Akron runs its own, and so does Hudson, where the tree ordinance also covers removals on a lot. Clearing alone on acreage in a township needs neither; farm use is exempt under ORC 519.21. At 1 acre of disturbance Summit SWCD reviews the erosion and sediment control plan. I wrote those plans on warehouse pads along I-71 for fourteen years.
Lake-plain wet woods and vernal pools are isolated wetlands more often than not. Ohio EPA Level 1 covers fill to half an acre, and fill triggers it, not clearing. Streams go to the USACE Buffalo District in the Lake Erie basin. The national park boundary runs through Boston Township. Trees over 3 inches on tracts over 1 acre come down October 1 to March 31 for the Indiana bat. OUPS 811 before any stump work.
Frozen-Ground Land Clearing December to February
Frozen ground is the only land clearing season I trust in the Akron area, December through February. The clay sets up and the ravine carries the mulcher with no ruts and no mud surcharge, and the bat window is open. The Medina ash job ran two February days without a track. Book by Thanksgiving.
