Land Clearing Services Available in Stark County

Fencerow and woodlot work is most of the professional land clearing services in Stark County we run. Brush clearing on a half-mile of multiflora rose and autumn olive. Tree clearing of dead ash on wooded acreage inside the bat window. Lot clearing for a Jackson Township build. Stump grinding at $4 an inch. Site clearing, site prep and grading for a machine shed. Underbrushing.

Our land clearing service removes trees and brush, grinds the stumps and leaves the field edge ready. Selective clearing keeps the white oaks. Dirt work services run $160 an hour with an operator, excavation included, for a pond footprint. Residential and commercial, both. Tree removal over a barn roof goes to a climber. Concrete and septic are not what a land clearing service does.

Forestry Mulching on the Plateau: Fencerows and Dead Ash Mulched in Place

Forestry mulching in the Canton area is pasture reclaim and fencerows as much as lots. Comparable job from the home farm country: 15 acres of fencerow and pasture in Knox County, multiflora rose and autumn olive, three days with the 300-hp mulcher, $11,700 plus transport. Our mulching services grind the honeysuckle, rose and buckthorn, undergrowth and the trees and branches to 12 inches on the big machine. The mulch lays two to four inches deep.

Dead ash and hardwood over that we fell first; the tops drop early and the wood is yours. Honeysuckle resprouts from the crown, so we grind the crown into the dirt; you spray the regrowth that summer. Multiflora rose comes back from seed for three years, so plan on mowing. I have cleared honeysuckle since 2017; pastures here overgrow in two seasons once the mowing stops. Removing vegetation with the mulcher leaves no piles and no burn question. Point at the woodland you want kept; we remove unwanted vegetation around it.

Lot Clearing for New Homes in Jackson, Lake and Plain Townships

The county wrote 472 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, up 27 percent, with 350 of them in the townships. Residential land clearing here is a homeowner in Jackson or Lake Township with 3 acres of old pasture gone to rose and a woodlot edge of dead ash. Small residential lots run one day: half acre $2,500, quarter acre $1,700, plus transport.

Commercial land clearing is the I-77 and US 62 corridor from North Canton to Louisville, where commercial development and master-planned communities take farm woodlots. That commercial land gets the big machine. Property development starts with site preparation; residential jobs get the same list.

Soil, Season and Vegetation From the Tuscarawas to Walborn Reservoir

Stark County's ground is Wooster and Canfield silt loam on the glaciated plateau, Mahoning clay on the north flats, and Hartville muck in the old lake bed. Up here the mud season starts in March and ends when it feels like it. Near Walborn Reservoir it is pin oak and red maple swamp forest with buckthorn thickets. Along the Tuscarawas River and Sandy Creek it is oak and hickory on the bluffs and a hawthorn fence line on the agricultural land above.

Frozen, mud or dust, pick one. On our jobs in Lake Township last winter the plateau carried the big mulcher without a mark. Muck never carries it, frozen or not; we work muck edges from the firm side. We keep the drainage swales open for the cleanup.

Burn Rules, Wetlands and Permits Before You Clear

Burning land-clearing brush is out inside the three cities, Louisville and the villages. Ohio EPA OAC 3745-19 bars open burning inside corporation limits. In the townships the pile sits 1,000 feet from a neighbor's house with written notice to Ohio EPA, and ODNR Forestry bars daytime burning in spring and fall. So we mulch or haul.

A pad needs the Stark County Building Department permit plus a zoning certificate from the township: Jackson, Lake, Plain, Perry, Tuscarawas. The three cities run their own. Clearing alone on acreage needs no permit at all, and farm use is exempt from township zoning under ORC 519.21. At 1 acre of disturbance Stark SWCD reviews the erosion and sediment control plan. Fourteen years on I-71 pads taught me to write those plans before the first bucket.

Hartville muck and the lake-plain wet woods are isolated wetlands more often than not. Ohio EPA Level 1 covers fill to half an acre, and fill triggers it, not clearing. The Tuscarawas side drains to the USACE Huntington District, the Lake Erie side to Buffalo. Trees over 3 inches on tracts over 1 acre come down October 1 to March 31 for the Indiana bat. OUPS 811 before any stump work.

Frozen-Ground Land Clearing December to February

Frozen ground is the land clearing season on this plateau, December through February. The clay sets up and carries the mulcher with no ruts and no mud surcharge, and the bat window is open. Fields open after harvest in late October too. Book by Thanksgiving.
