Land Clearing Services Available in Medina County
The professional land clearing services in Medina County we run most: tree clearing of dead ash on wooded acreage in Montville, Granger, Sharon and Hinckley Townships, lot clearing for a build, brush clearing on old pasture, stump grinding at $4 an inch, and site clearing with site prep and grading for a pad. Underbrushing comes next.
Our land clearing service removes trees and brush, grinds stumps and hands you a lot you can stake. Selective clearing keeps the red maples and pin oaks and takes the ash. Dirt work services run $160 an hour with an operator, excavation included, for a pond footprint. Residential and commercial, both. Tree removal over a roofline goes to a climber I trust. A land clearing service pours no concrete, drills no wells and sets no septic.
Forestry Mulching on Frozen Ground: Dead Ash and Honeysuckle Mulched in Place
Forestry mulching here is the February job. Field case: 6 acres of EAB-killed ash and honeysuckle here, frozen ground, two days with the 300-hp mulcher, $7,800. February on this clay is the only month the ground tells the truth. Our mulching services grind the honeysuckle, multiflora rose and buckthorn, undergrowth and the trees and branches to 12 inches on the big machine. The mulch ends up two to four inches deep.
Dead ash and hardwood over that we fell first; the tops drop early and the wood is yours. Honeysuckle resprouts from the crown, so we grind the crown into the dirt; you spray the regrowth that summer. Buckthorn in the wet thickets gets the same treatment. I have cleared honeysuckle since 2017, and the township lots here overgrow in two seasons under the dead ash. Removing vegetation this way leaves nothing to burn and nothing to haul. The woodland you flag stays; we remove unwanted vegetation and nothing else.
Lot Clearing for New Homes in Granger, Hinckley and the Townships
The county wrote 430 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, 376 of them in the townships. Residential land clearing here is a homeowner on 3 acres in Granger or Hinckley Township with a swamp-forest edge of dead ash and a honeysuckle wall under it. Small residential lots run one day: half acre $2,500, quarter acre $1,700, plus transport.
Commercial land clearing is the I-71 and US 42 corridor on the north end, where commercial development and master-planned communities take farm woodlots. That commercial land gets the 300-hp mulcher and a stormwater plan. Property development starts with site preparation; residential jobs get the same list and the same frozen-ground advice.

Soil, Season and Vegetation From the Rocky River to Chippewa Lake
Medina County's ground is Mahoning and Ellsworth lake-plain clay on the north and west, the slowest-draining soil in Ohio, and Wooster and Canfield silt loam on the plateau south and east. Near Chippewa Lake it is red maple and pin oak swamp forest with buckthorn thickets. Along the Rocky River headwaters by Hinckley it is hemlock in the ravines and a hawthorn fence line on the agricultural land above.
Frozen, mud or dust, pick one, except here mud runs into May. The February job ran two days without a rut; I walked the same woodland in April and sank to the boot top. We leave every drainage swale open when the cleanup runs.
Burn Rules, Wetlands and Permits Before You Clear
Burning land-clearing brush is out inside the three cities and the villages. Ohio EPA OAC 3745-19 bars open burning inside corporation limits. In the townships the pile sits 1,000 feet from a neighbor's house with written notice to Ohio EPA, and ODNR Forestry bars daytime burning in spring and fall. So we mulch or haul.
A pad needs the Medina County Building Department permit plus a zoning certificate from the township: Montville, Granger, Sharon, Hinckley, York. The three cities run their own departments. Clearing alone on acreage needs neither; farm use is exempt under ORC 519.21. At 1 acre of disturbance the county SWCD reviews the erosion and sediment control plan. Fourteen years on I-71 pads, I wrote those plans myself.
Lake-plain wet woods and vernal pools are isolated wetlands more often than not here. Ohio EPA Level 1 covers fill to half an acre, and fill triggers it, not clearing. Streams go to the USACE Buffalo District in the Lake Erie basin. Trees over 3 inches on tracts over 1 acre come down October 1 to March 31 for the Indiana bat. OUPS 811 before any stump work.
Frozen-Ground Land Clearing December to February
Frozen ground is not the best land clearing season here, it is the only one I trust. December through February the lake-plain clay sets up and carries the big mulcher with no ruts and no mud surcharge. The bat window is open. We cleared the 6 acres of dead ash in two February days and never left a track. Book by Thanksgiving.
