Land Clearing Services Available in Hamilton County
The professional land clearing services in Hamilton County we run most: lot clearing for an Anderson Township build, brush clearing on a Colerain ravine, tree clearing on wooded acreage inside the bat window, stump grinding at $4 an inch, and site clearing with site prep and grading for a pad. Underbrushing comes next.
Our land clearing service removes trees and brush and grinds the stumps; the lot is staked when we leave. Selective clearing keeps the oaks that hold the hillside. Dirt work services run $160 an hour with an operator, excavation included, for a pond footprint. Residential and commercial, both. A tree removal over the house goes to a climber, not a mulcher. A land clearing service pours no concrete, drills no wells and sets no septic.
Forestry Mulching on the Hillsides: Honeysuckle Mulched in Place
Forestry mulching here is honeysuckle at a density the rest of Ohio does not believe. Cincinnati honeysuckle is thick enough to lean a ladder on. Our mulching services grind it with the callery pear, tree-of-heaven and bush honeysuckle, undergrowth and the trees and branches to 8 inches. The mulch lays two to four inches deep and holds a slope a dozer would strip bare.
Because honeysuckle resprouts from the crown, we grind the crown into the dirt and you spray what comes back in July. Callery pear and tree-of-heaven get cut-stump treatment within minutes. Dead ash and hardwood over 8 inches we fell first; the tops drop early; the wood is yours. I have cleared honeysuckle since 2017 and the Mill Creek ravines set the standard. One season is all it takes for lots here to overgrow. Removing vegetation this way leaves no piles on a slope no truck reaches. We remove unwanted vegetation and keep the woodland you point at.
Lot Clearing for New Homes in Anderson and Colerain Townships
The county wrote 648 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, up 14 percent, with 286 in the townships. Residential land clearing here is a homeowner in Colerain or Anderson Township with a honeysuckle ravine and a dead ash over the deck. Small residential lots run one day: half acre $2,500, quarter acre $1,700 flat.
Comparable job on the Loveland side, where the county meets Clermont and Warren: a 2-acre creek-bank lot with an isolated wetland pocket, Ohio EPA Level 1 filed with the owner, a day and a half, $4,100. Commercial land clearing is the I-275 and I-74 corridor on the west side, where commercial development and master-planned communities take hillside farms. That commercial land gets the 300-hp mulcher. Site preparation is where property development starts here; residential jobs pay from the same list.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost Here?
Land clearing in Hamilton County costs $1,200 to $5,000 an acre, transport included from Lebanon. Honeysuckle and brush run $1,200 to 2,000 by density. A woodlot understory with dead ash runs $1,800 to 2,600. Full clearing to dirt with the stumps out is $2,800 to 5,000. The skid steer is $2,500 a day; the 300-hp mulcher is $3,900 plus transport. Haul-off is $600 to 1,100 a load.
Site conditions set the rest: slope, access, stump count. March and April add a day or we wait. The free quote is written on-site after I walk the property. Call (740) 729-8625 or send the form with photos to get an estimate. The budget range is in your email before the end of the day.
Soil, Season and Vegetation From the Little Miami to Winton Lake
Hamilton County's ground is Rossmoyne and Avonburg silt loam over Illinoian till with a fragipan that perches water, cut by ravines on every side of the city. Near Winton Lake and the Mill Creek valley the woodland is beech and sugar maple with dead ash in every draw. Along the Little Miami River and the Whitewater it is sycamore bottoms, with a hawthorn fence line on the agricultural land to the west.
Frozen, mud or dust, pick one. On our jobs in Miami Township last winter the ravine carried the mulcher like pavement. In April the same slope sheds a dozer. Drainage swales get flagged first and stay open for the cleanup.
Burn Rules, Wetlands and Permits Before You Clear
Burning land-clearing brush is out on almost every lot in the county. Ohio EPA OAC 3745-19 bars open burning inside corporation limits, and the city plus 36 cities and villages cover nearly all of it. Where it is legal the pile sits 1,000 feet from a neighbor's house with written notice to Ohio EPA; ODNR Forestry bars daytime burning in spring and fall. So we mulch or haul.
A pad in a township needs the Hamilton County Building Inspections permit plus the township zoning certificate; inside the city it is Cincinnati Buildings and Inspections and the hillside rules. The Hamilton County SWCD issues an earthwork permit for land disturbance, and the Stormwater District reviews the erosion and sediment control plan at 1 acre. Fourteen years on I-71 pads, I wrote those plans myself. Clearing alone on acreage is exempt; farm use is exempt from township zoning under ORC 519.21.
Ravine seeps on fragipan can be isolated wetlands; Ohio EPA Level 1 covers fill to half an acre. Streams go to the USACE Huntington District, the Great Miami to Louisville. Trees over 3 inches on tracts over 1 acre come down October 1 to March 31 for the Indiana bat. OUPS 811 before any stump work.
Frozen-Ground Land Clearing December to February
Frozen ground is the land clearing season on these hillsides, December through February. A frozen ravine carries the mulcher with no ruts and no mud surcharge, and the bat window is open. In April the same ravine is a liability. Book the frozen weeks early.
