Land Clearing and Forestry Mulching in Delaware, OH: Lot, Brush and Honeysuckle Clearing

Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees and vegetation into mulch on the spot. Here it is nine jobs in ten, and the fastest way to clear areas with dense honeysuckle. The skid steer mulcher, stems to 8 inches, is $2,500 a day. Brush clearing by the acre is $1,200 to 2,000, by how thick the honeysuckle stands. Honeysuckle resprouts from the crown. Grind the crown to chips and it stays down. The clay outside Delaware has been fighting my tires since 2018, and it is still ahead. So we mulch on frozen ground when we can, December into February. Selective clearing leaves the sugar maple. Delaware issued 438 single-family permits in 2025, the most of any municipality in Ohio in the Census Building Permits Survey. Lot clearing is a half-acre lot in one skid steer day, $2,500, or a quarter-acre infill lot at $1,700 flat. • Honeysuckle and brush: $1,200 to 2,000 an acre.
• Woodlot understory, honeysuckle under maple with dead ash: $1,800 to 2,600 an acre.
• Clearing to dirt, stumps out: $2,800 to 5,000 an acre.
• Stump grinding: $4 an inch, $150 minimum per stump. Ten or more, we grind by the day.
• Grubbing with the excavator: $160 an hour. Haul-off: $600 to 1,100 per 10-yard load.

December through February on frozen ground is the best access of the year. March and April add a day or we wait, said before the number on every project. Large acreage clearing runs cheaper by the acre. The 15-acre pasture reclaim on a farm in Knox County took three days with the big mulcher, $11,700. Open burning is banned inside the city limits under Ohio EPA rule OAC 3745-19. Lot debris is mulch or haul. Out in Berlin or Concord Township a pile burns only more than 1,000 feet from a neighbor's house, with written notice to the Ohio EPA district office, and never in daylight March through May or in October and November under ODNR Forestry hours. The Olentangy is a State Scenic River, and the county brings up riparian setbacks on any bank lot. Low spots on Kokomo soil are isolated wetlands; the Ohio EPA Level 1 permit is a fill permit, and mulch is not fill. Clearing acreage needs none. A pad needs the county Building Safety office outside the city, plus a township zoning certificate. Trees over 3 inches on tracts over an acre wait for the Indiana bat window, October 1 to March 31. OUPS 811 marks the gas pipeline before any grubbing.
