Land Clearing Services Available in Wood County

Woodlot and fencerow work is most of the professional land clearing services in Wood County we run. Tree clearing of dead ash in a farm woodlot inside the bat window. Brush clearing on a ditch bank or fencerow. Lot clearing for a Perrysburg Township build. Stump grinding at $4 an inch. Site clearing, site prep and grading for a machine shed. Underbrushing.

Our land clearing service removes trees and brush, grinds the stumps and leaves the field edge ready. Selective clearing keeps the bur oaks. Dirt work services run $160 an hour with an operator, excavation included, for a pond footprint. Residential and commercial, both. Tree removal over a barn roof goes to a climber. No concrete or septic from a land clearing service.

Forestry Mulching on the Black Swamp: Dead Ash and Buckthorn Mulched in Place

Forestry mulching here is woodlot edge and fencerow work on the flattest ground in Ohio. Our mulching services grind the honeysuckle, buckthorn, autumn olive and callery pear, undergrowth and the trees and branches to 8 inches on the skid steer and 12 on the big machine. The mulch lays two to four inches deep and stays out of the ditch.

Dead ash and hardwood over that we fell first; the borer has been here since 2003 and the tops come off at a touch. The wood is yours. Honeysuckle resprouts from the crown. We grind the crown into the dirt; you spray the regrowth once that summer. I have cleared honeysuckle since 2017; these edges overgrow in two seasons once the mowing stops. Removing vegetation this way leaves a mulch layer, not a pile. You mark the woodland to keep, and we remove unwanted vegetation to the line.

Lot Clearing for New Homes in the Toledo Exurb and the Townships

The Census Building Permits Survey shows 101 single-family permits for the county in 2025, a reporting gap more than a market drop; 2024 showed 319. Residential land clearing here is a homeowner on 3 acres off SR 25 with a woodlot edge of dead ash and a buckthorn wall. Small residential lots run one day: half acre $2,500, quarter acre $1,700, plus transport.

Comparable job from the home farm country: 15 acres of fencerow and pasture in Knox County, multiflora rose and autumn olive, three days with the 300-hp mulcher, $11,700 plus transport. Commercial land clearing is the I-75 corridor by Levis Commons and the First Solar plants, where commercial development and master-planned communities take tiled farmland. That commercial land gets the big machine. Property development starts at site preparation, and residential jobs see the same numbers.

Honeysuckle and brush$1,200 to 2,000 an acre

Full clearing to dirt, stumps out$2,800 to 5,000 an acre

Soil, Season and Vegetation From the Portage River to Maumee Bay

Wood County's ground is Hoytville and Nappanee lake-plain clay, drained by tile and county ditches since the 1880s. Out here the tile line is older than the house and worth more. Near Maumee Bay and along the Portage River the woodland is swamp white oak, pin oak and cottonwood with phragmites in every ditch. Out on the agricultural land it is a hawthorn fence line and a woodlot every mile.

Frozen, mud or dust, pick one, and here mud runs into May. I walked a Middleton Township woodlot last spring and the tile was running at 30 inches. On our jobs there last winter the clay carried the big mulcher flat. We keep the drainage ditches open for the cleanup.

Burn Rules, Wetlands and Permits Before You Clear

Burning land-clearing brush is out inside the cities and the villages. Ohio EPA OAC 3745-19 bars open burning inside corporation limits. In the townships the pile sits 1,000 feet from a neighbor's house with written notice to Ohio EPA, and ODNR Forestry bars daytime burning in spring and fall. So we mulch or haul.

A pad needs the Wood County Building Inspection permit plus a township zoning certificate; Bowling Green runs its own. Clearing alone on acreage needs neither; farm use is exempt under ORC 519.21. At 1 acre of disturbance Wood SWCD reviews the erosion and sediment control plan, and the petition ditch rules apply to anything that touches a county ditch. Fourteen years on I-71 pads, I wrote those plans myself.

Black Swamp wet woods and vernal pools are isolated wetlands more often than not. Ohio EPA Level 1 covers fill to half an acre, and fill triggers it, not clearing. Streams go to the USACE Buffalo District. Trees over 3 inches on tracts over 1 acre come down October 1 to March 31 for the Indiana bat. OUPS 811 before any stump work; tile is not marked.

Frozen-Ground Land Clearing December to February

Frozen ground is the land clearing season on the Black Swamp, December through February. The clay sets up and carries the mulcher with no ruts and no mud surcharge, the tile is safe under frost, and the bat window is open. Book by Thanksgiving.
